STATEMENT
I have served on the RTM for 4 terms, or 8 years, representing what was, before the recent redistricting, District 7. The RTM district I will represent when re-elected (District 9) includes a large portion of the beach area. In this neighborhood, safety - including coastal resilience and safe streets that allow beach and other residents to safely walk and bike - is an important issue. I will press the town to do the coastal resiliency study that was promised in connection with the approval of the Penfield Pavilion construction and I will support other studies and fact-based proposals that help to protect our coastline. I supported the recently-enacted Safe and Livable Streets ordinance, which requires the town to consider the safety of all users of streets - cars, bicyclists, pedestrians, the handicapped - in planning any road projects.
My terms on the RTM have included serving as majority leader and as moderator as well as being a member of the Legislation and Administration Committee, which reviews and considers ordinances. My profession as an attorney has allowed me to help with drafting ordinances and considering other legal matters.
On the RTM, I will continue to insist on genuine transparency, ethical behavior and careful financial stewardship by town leadership. I hope that I can earn the votes of the residents of District 9 on November 7.
